Slave Canal 4/6/08

We had a great trip today. Left for the Slave Canal from Goose Pasture at about 9:45 a.m.

Departing from Goose Pasture

Hang a right here for the Slave Canal

It started out overcast and shortly after we set out there was some thunder, but there was only a 30% chance of rain, right? It started to drizzle, and then a bit more, and as soon as the thunder sounded close Georgia said, "We're getting off the water in two minutes!" Georgia split up the group and we all squatted on the ground until the lightning passed. Georgia says it was about 38 minutes.

Just before the thunderstorm

Where we had lunch (Wacissa to the north, Aucilla to the east)

After the storm passed, we paddled a little bit farther on and found a picnic spot. Lunch was particularly delicious today, even if it was a little wet!

Paddlers Buffet

There were several new trees down this time so we had some additional portages, but everyone seemed to be having a good time. I took some group photos as we entered the Aucilla from the canal.

Intrepid Paddlers

When we got to Nutall Rise I didn't want it to be over, but I was definitely ready for some dry clothes!
